Mockers and Scoffers

If there is one thing that is prevalent in online discussion today, it is mockery of the Word of God and the Christians that strive to spread it. When a topic is of some government corruption or a war or a disaster or the rising social 'norms', and a Brother or Sister tries to bring wisdom and understanding into the exchange, they are immediately jumped and ridiculed. Their textual attack is filled with derision and the laughing emoji that boasts of their (false) moral and mental superiority. My heart goes to any Christian who has experienced it, and I also rejoice in my spirit because they have been persecuted, and, for that they will be rewarded.

In modern language, scoffing is generally considered to be merely the brushing off of another's opinion, but it is actually much more intense than that, and is equated with mockery. Mockery is outright shaming them for it. We sure see lots of the latter in these times.

2 𝑷𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒓 3:3 𝑲𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒔𝒄𝒐𝒇𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒔,

The last thing a Christian ever wants to be is a scoffer. Debating an unbeliever or even another Christian is one thing, and done in love and respect and consideration it is a good thing. Done in mockery is entirely another. Too often on Christian forums I see exactly that. A doctrinal difference pops up, and the mockers jump right in with their version and the laughing emoji. Maybe several laughing emojis to show their haughtiness. I sadly close that discussion and leave. That's not Godly. The spirit of antichrist has taken it over.

In the Stuart Towend hymn, "How Deep The Father's Love For Us", the third verse is,

𝐵𝑒ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑎𝑛 𝑢𝑝𝑜𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑐𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑠.

𝑀𝑦 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑢𝑝𝑜𝑛 𝐻𝑖𝑠 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑𝑒𝑟.

𝐴𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑑 𝐼 ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝑚𝑦 𝑚𝑜𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑣𝑜𝑖𝑐𝑒

𝐶𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑎𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑐𝑜𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑟𝑠.

I hang my head in shame, and the welling urge to sob rises up in me, every single time. No, Lord! It cannot be! But, verse 4 reminds me:

𝐼𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑚𝑦 𝑠𝑖𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 ℎ𝑒𝑙𝑑 𝐻𝑖𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒

𝑈𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑙 𝑖𝑡 𝑤𝑎𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑑.

Yes, it most certainly was me. It was me, Lord! Yes, it was me!

Alone I stand, naked, ashamed, and guilty as charged, and without excuse. But:

𝐻𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑦𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑡ℎ ℎ𝑎𝑠 𝑏𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑚𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒.

𝐼 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑡 𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑠ℎ𝑒𝑑.

Yes it was, and is, and will remain forever. And for that reason only I am Saved.

I can raise my head again after we sing that. Relief surges through my being. No triumph of my own, but my belief in Him and the power of His shed blood only. Otherwise I better not die or I go straight to Hell. Only Jesus has Saved me from that. Him, Him, and only Him.

𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒃𝒔 14:9 𝑭𝒐𝒐𝒍𝒔 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒂 𝒎𝒐𝒄𝒌 𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒊𝒏: 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒂𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒓𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒆𝒐𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒂𝒗𝒐𝒖𝒓.

We Christians know full well the wages of sin is death and that is exactly why we are Christians. The lost are literally laughing Death right in the face. They don't know it but they are. They unwittingly create a very scary forecast for themselves:

𝑮𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 6:7 𝑩𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒅; 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒊𝒔 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒎𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒅: 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒔𝒐𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒂 𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒔𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒕𝒉, 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒑.

Mocking scares me. I mean it flat out scares me. Any time I see it. It is a 𝑑𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑠 side effect of pride, and look at the wellspring of that there is in this winding era.

Our Lord was non-stop mocked on His way to the Cross and it continued until He breathed His last. Even the other criminal hanging on his own cross mocked him! In his dying throes he mocked the very One Who could save him! People do that to this day when they are visited on their deathbed by Pastors trying to lead them out of destruction. They will waste their last breath in denial.

𝙈𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙬 12:30 𝙃𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙢𝙚; 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙜𝙖𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙝 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙢𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙙.

32 𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙝 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙖𝙣, 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙢: 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙤𝙡𝙮 𝙂𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙩, 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙝𝙞𝙢, 𝙣𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙, 𝙣𝙚𝙞𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙚.

People are frightened all the time by whether or not they have committed the Unpardonable Sin. But, if you are still living, you haven't. It is the denial of the power of Jesus to save you through His Word and the shedding of His precious blood. They can be Saved right up to their dying breath. If they pass without doing so however, they have then passed into Judgement. They have mocked the very Holy Spirit that can Save them.

As we look around in society today, we see ℎ𝑢𝑔𝑒 indicators of that. Just inescapable ones. Men pretending to be women... or actually even 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 they are, and visa versa. And 'churches' dedicated to their delusion rather than the Word of God.

𝑱𝒖𝒅𝒆 1:18 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒕𝒐𝒍𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒃𝒆 𝒎𝒐𝒄𝒌𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆, 𝒘𝒉𝒐 𝒔𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒘𝒂𝒍𝒌 𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒐𝒅𝒍𝒚 𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒔.

Pay particular attention to meaning of that verse. The "mockers" pursuing "their own ungodly lusts" 𝑑𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑒 the "last time", otherwise known as the End Times. We are seeing exactly that. There is no misconstruing it. It is literally being 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑒𝑑 right in front of us every opportunity they can get. They have their banner plastered across Banks and Post Offices and police stations and crosswalks: you name it. I even saw it on a Canadian Tire restroom sign yesterday evening. The mindset; the spirit, in which it comes from heralds the day and the man we are soon going to see. Man says, 'Every dog has its day', but the Word of God says something entirely different:

𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 22:15 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒈𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒓𝒄𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒅𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒘𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒐𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆𝒕𝒉 𝒂 𝒍𝒊𝒆.

What a sad thing for them, but it is ultimately their doing and their choice. We are rapidly approaching that time, and the repetitive mockery of truth is loudly announcing it.

Pride and mockery go hand in hand. Do not be deceived. Any time you see pride and mockery you are seeing the spirit of antichrist. More than that, these sad, perverse days, we see they are literally bedfellows. Do not 'celebrate' it. Be sorrowed and sickened by it.

Wake up to the Truth while it is still available to you.

28 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏 𝒂𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘𝒍𝒆𝒅𝒈𝒆, 𝑮𝒐𝒅 𝒈𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒎 𝒐𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒂 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒓𝒐𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒆 𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅, 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒔𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒊𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒕;

That is one frightening prospect for them: To chase their own perverse, fleeting passions until God Almighty, at the end of even His own patience and mercy, decides enough is enough, and washes His Holy hands of them and lets them go their own way. What a tragic moment for them! He stops trying to pull them back into repentance. Without the drawing of the Holy Spirit we have no chance at Salvation because it is only the Holy Spirit that can convict us. We can not do that ourselves. That is what mockery can lead to.

Do not ever partake in mockery. It comes from pride and only leads to worse. Much, much worse.
