God Gave Them Over
Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
"I never knew you: depart from me".
I'm going to say flat out those are the scariest words in the Bible to me. They are condemning, and FINAL. And their end is only Hell for eternity. That just chills me to the bone. And those people were expecting to be in Heaven.
Here is a very different kind of divine sentence:
Romans 1 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
God gave them over...
There we have a different kind of condemnation. The first example is at Judgement Day. The second example is very different. It is in the here and now. The present. In this earthly body. They don't even have to die for their alienation from God to take place. God announces (to the ones who will hear, anyway) that He is done with them for their wickedness and evil; their pride. Does that word sound familiar? It should.
That is a whole different ballgame, Church Family. Because they despise the nature in which God created all creatures, God washes His hands of them. This is terrifying for them. They won't be aware of it, but we will - or should be.
I saw a good reference to the trendy lie, 'love is love' today. "Water is water, but do we drink out of the toilet?" Think about that. You can mix anything you want together, but it doesn't mean they'll result in a good product.
Can these people be saved after God gives them over? I don't know for sure that it is an eternal condemnation, because we do see many people come out of the lie of same sex relationships and transgender insanity, but had God truly given those ones over? I suspect it is the ones who have hardened their hearts to stone in their selfish deceived pride that God truly gives over. They don't come back. Ever.
The Lord can and will save anyone anyone who comes to Him. But the people spoken of here will not. They would refuse even if the Lord Jesus Christ was standing before them in His full glory and majesty.
Got Questions (.org) puts it this way:
In this context, it refers to the act of God completely abandoning the unrighteous. As the wicked deserted God, God in turn deserted them, no longer giving them divine direction or restraint, but allowing them to corrupt themselves as they wished. Because they would not honor Him, He let them do what they pleased to dishonor themselves. Being given over or yielded up to one’s sinful desires is a judgment from God.
Abandoning them, removing their divine direction and restraint, allowing them to corrupt and dishonour themselves, and placing judgement on them. That does sound final. What a scary place to be. Done with while they're still alive.
Why is Satan so behind the 'pride' movement? Because pride separates us from God and nobody but nobody knows that better than Satan does. He will encourage anyone to dishonour and destroy themselves. And they, in their foolish pride, will allow him to deceive them. What a tragedy for them.
Matthew, Mark, and Luke all related about Jesus telling them to shake the dust off of their sandals and walk away from those too proud and hard-hearted to listen, but only Mark completed the Lord's words:
Mark 6:11 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
LOOK OUT! In Sodom and Gomorrha the men of the city wanted Lot to give the Lord's angels to them to rape! And it's going to be worse for the people who refuse God's Word than Sodom and Gomorrha! Man, you can't get much scarier than that. This is a frightening situation for those people.
Sometimes the very worst thing in life is getting what you want because of what comes with it. We are now seeing it all over. Hell is automatic for all who do not accept God's free gift of salvation, but to be given over to all one wants to destroy themselves with is a special sentence of condemnation and it pains us to see them demand it with such willful ignorance. They will accept the mark of the beast in celebration, deceived to no end in their self proclaimed pride and 'progression'. Then they are sealed in damnation. They wanted it and they got it. How tragic for them!
Jesus Christ is Lord, and He and only He can save mankind from the eternal, unquenchable fires of Hell. Turn to Him today and ask Him to save you from your sins. Jesus spoke more of Hell than He did of Heaven, and that was to warn us of it and save us from it.
Proverbs 16:18 Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
