The One Who Prays FOR You
I was reading Romans last night and went through Chapter 8.
There are all kinds of absolutely amazing examples of God's incredible adoption for those who love Him, but the one which blows me away the most is:
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
(King James version)
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray,[ad] but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. 27 And he[ae] who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit[af] intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will.
(New English Translation)
Did you catch that? Even if you don't know how to pray because you're new to faith, or because you're too weary, or so hurt, so deeply troubled, or so humbled and ashamed you don't feel worthy to approach God, or for any other reason, the Holy Spirit living in you, given to you by God's immeasurable grace and love for you, prays with you, for you, on behalf of you, the perfect prayer presentable to God for your situation!
Read the above sentence again. You are not alone in your need! Not by any stretch of the imagination. You are loved, cherished, and grafted in to God's family and kingdom. You are His beloved child. He is now your Father and He wants you to ask Him for good things. And, most incredibly, as His child, you have been indwelled by His Holy Spirit as your constant, perfect Companion and Comforter.
No matter what you are facing, and how difficult you may find it to express, God knows your suffering and need. The Holy Spirit Who comes from God, now living within you, is praying alongside you the perfect prayer to God our Father. Even if your need is so desperate, your situation so dire, that you don't have a clue what to say, just bow your head, and the Holy Spirit living within you will reach up to God our ever-loving Father with the most perfect, fitting prayer, completely presentable to Him for you. And, because the Holy Spirit comes from God, and is of the same perfection as God, God will hear Him praying for you!
I don't think there is any greater testimony in the Bible of the fact we are not alone than these verses. You are not only surrounded by God's unfathomable love for you, God's love for you is so indescribably incredible that His sent His Holy Spirit to live in you so that He is with you always. The Holy Spirit prays to Him for you, an always completely holy, totally pure, exacting prayer for you and your situation. That is why when Jesus returned to Heaven He said He would leave us a "Comforter". Among many other names, the Holy Spirit is also called the Intercessor, because that is exactly what He is doing for us: interceding with God Almighty on our behalf. The Holy Spirit is our perfect conduit to God the Father.
Read the whole chapter to see how astounding and irrevocable God's love really is for His children. You cannot come away from Romans Chapter 8 without amazement, comfort, security, and joy and peace in your heart.
